3. You now need to gather some research into the three industries that you may be interested in pursuing after college.

You will need to produce information on the following subjects and print it for your folder (industry section)

The major commercaial companies in the Website industry are:

* Microsoft - Computer Maker

* Apple - Computer Maker

* Facebook - Social Networking Site

* BBC - Broadcasting

* Google - Search Engine

· What types of jobs can you apply for and where could these jobs possibly lead?

i.e. Film (runner) to Film (Camera Person) to Film (Producer) to Film (Director)

To be have a website or become a web designer you would need to be able to navigate through an operating system quickly, you would also need to know how to use such photo editing software as Adobe Photoshop and how to publish pictures. Other things you should be able to do or know is XHTML, HTML, CSS and the use of publishing software such as Dreamweaver. You may or may not need to know how to form directories and upload them onto a real site or manage a domain. To go further beyond this you may need to know C# or Java for creating web applications.

·What type of skills would you need, to apply for a job in each of your chosen industries?

To work as even a basic wed designer you would need to know the basics i.e how to work your way through an operating system. You would also need to know how to use things such as XHTML, HTML, CSS and Dreamweaver, you may also need to about Java for creating web applications as well.

4. Write up your notes into three mini reports (min 150 words). Each report should contain details of the following.

· Historical Origins and developments within the industry

In the 1980's commercialization introduced private Internet service providers and the Internet become popular very quickly during the 1990's. Not long after the internet become acsessable from homes the near instant communication of email become a big thing as you could send messages and infomation quickly and easily all across the world in seconds.

· Key companies or industry leaders (a range of examples)

Some of the main or key compaines that are on the web are Google (being number one), Microsoft at number two and followed by Yahoo! All of these companies are important as they are constantly in use by the public.

· How individuals can get into the industry, i.e. Qualifications needed etc.

There are many ways of getting into the industry. One way would be to go self imployed and set up you own web design company and build up your own client base and get a reputation and set up your business this way. If you didnt want to go self imployed then you could join a company and become web designer for them. Another way would be to go to college and take a course on web design from there you could then go into a company or go self imployed and start web designing, you could also choose to go on into further education such as university and study further about web design and what percific subject you would want to be involved in. What ever you chose you have alot of options.

· Your own interest and evaluation of your chosen industry

I became intrested in web design and websites when some of my friends started their own company and have been very susessful in makeing websites for small companies. I think that this would be full of oportunties and a chance to meet new people and have alot of links to other places.
