I searched for jobs that i could go in to or work my way into over a period of years. I have chosen to look at the advert below as i think it looks like an interesting job. I have made a colour key to show which parts of this advert are Qualities and which are Skills.

Report on Radio

3. You now need to gather some research into the three industries that you may be interested in pursuing after college.

You will need to produce information on the following subjects and print it for your folder (industry section)
· What are the major commercial companies in each Industry? (print copies for your folder)

The major commercial companies in the radio industry are:

* Radio 1
* XFM
* Kiss 100
* Shouts FM
* Rinse FM

· What types of jobs can you apply for and where could these jobs possibly lead?
i.e. Film (runner) to Film (Camera Person) to Film (Producer) to Film (Director)

Here are some of the jobs i have found i could do in the Radio industry:
  • Broadcast Journalist
  • Broadcast engineer
  • Afternoon Drive Presenter

· What type of skills would you need, to apply for a job in each of your chosen industries?


These are some of the skills i would need to be in the Radio industry:

  • Writing for radio
  • Interview techniques and platforms, including phone and Skype interviews
  • Reporting from the field
  • Digital editing
  • Trails and spot

· Can you find a job or some work experience that is related to your industry of choice? (print a copy for your folder)

4. Write up your notes into three mini reports (min 150 words). Each report should contain details of the following.

· Historical Origins and developments within the industry

As a result of an experiment in 1873 Maxwell was the first to describe the theoretical basis of the propagation and electomagnetic waves. Later in 1878 the first transmited and received raido wave had been sucsessfuly taken place and David E Hughes was the man who discovered this. Whilst this was taking place he noticed that something was causeing noice in the receiver of his homemade telephone. Alot later on and Heinrich R Hertz managed to prove Maxwell's theory by experiment and demonstrated that radio radiation had all the properties of waves.

· Key companies or industry leaders (a range of examples)

Some of the main leaders and popluar radio stations are Kiss FM, Radio 1, Rinse FM, BBC Radio 2 and Heart. All of these stations transmit their signals near and far.

· How individuals can get into the industry, i.e. Qualifications needed etc.

In this industry you could start off as a runner or cleaner and work your way up through the levels and ranks until you get to the job you want to work at. You could also go through the education option and take courses in college and maybe go onto university that are based on DJ and radio topics. You also could do work exsperience and get into the industry that way.

· Your own interest and evaluation of your chosen industry

I became intrested in radio and DJ when i started to listen to the dubstep and grime radio stations and thought that it would be something i could do.

Report on Websites

3. You now need to gather some research into the three industries that you may be interested in pursuing after college.

The major commercaial companies in the Website industry are:


* Microsoft - Computer Maker


* Apple - Computer Maker


* Facebook - Social Networking Site


* BBC - Broadcasting


* Google - Search Engine


· What types of jobs can you apply for and where could these jobs possibly lead?

i.e. Film (runner) to Film (Camera Person) to Film (Producer) to Film (Director)

To be have a website or become a web designer you would need to be able to navigate through an operating system quickly, you would also need to know how to use such photo editing software as Adobe Photoshop and how to publish pictures. Other things you should be able to do or know is XHTML, HTML, CSS and the use of publishing software such as Dreamweaver. You may or may not need to know how to form directories and upload them onto a real site or manage a domain. To go further beyond this you may need to know C# or Java for creating web applications.

·What type of skills would you need, to apply for a job in each of your chosen industries?


To work as even a basic wed designer you would need to know the basics i.e how to work your way through an operating system. You would also need to know how to use things such as XHTML, HTML, CSS and Dreamweaver, you may also need to about Java for creating web applications as well.

In the 1980's commercialization introduced private Internet service providers and the Internet become popular very quickly during the 1990's. Not long after the internet become acsessable from homes the near instant communication of email become a big thing as you could send messages and infomation quickly and easily all across the world in seconds.


· Key companies or industry leaders (a range of examples)

Some of the main or key compaines that are on the web are Google (being number one), Microsoft at number two and followed by Yahoo! All of these companies are important as they are constantly in use by the public.


· How individuals can get into the industry, i.e. Qualifications needed etc.

There are many ways of getting into the industry. One way would be to go self imployed and set up you own web design company and build up your own client base and get a reputation and set up your business this way. If you didnt want to go self imployed then you could join a company and become web designer for them. Another way would be to go to college and take a course on web design from there you could then go into a company or go self imployed and start web designing, you could also choose to go on into further education such as university and study further about web design and what percific subject you would want to be involved in. What ever you chose you have alot of options.


· Your own interest and evaluation of your chosen industry

I became intrested in web design and websites when some of my friends started their own company and have been very susessful in makeing websites for small companies. I think that this would be full of oportunties and a chance to meet new people and have alot of links to other places.

I have been looking on http://www.skillset.org/ and found some subjects within the Television section that i would be intrestedin pursuing as a careere.

When employers are asked why they hire the same people again and again, they often respond, "They're good at their job and they're good to work with". The creative media industries value strong communication skills and the ability to think creatively. However, the ability to work well under pressure and to firm deadlines is also crucial. If you enjoy working in a dynamic workplace, and can think on your feet, you're probably well suited to working in this highly rewarding sector. However, these skills alone won't be enough. A strong understanding of the industries will give you the edge over other applicants and help you develop the skills you need for the job you want.

I have been looking for work in the related area and have found the below:

· Historical Origins and developments within the industry

British television started in the 1936 only looking to broadcast to London. During World War II the BBC television was closed, it re-opened after the war in 1946. The BBC then introduced a second station (BBC Two) in 1946, since then the BBC also offers digital services BBC Three BBC Four, BBC News, BBC Parliment, CBBC Channel, CBeebies, BBC HD, BBC Alba and BBC Red Button. To give the BBC competition in 1955 ITV was founded and started up its own broadcasting, unlike BBC ITV was different. ITV was able to broadcast by using advertisers and comercials.

Nowdays there's thousands of Channels avalible to watch with many major companies owning most of them. Some of the main companies in the television are BBC who created British televison, ITV the second major broadcasters, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky.

If you wanted to get into the televison side of the media industry then there are many courses and training opotunities avalible to get involved in. CC-TV is just one of the many companies set up to help you get into the industry and they offer a variety of courses.

I am interested in the Television industry because it is a creative and challenging job with lots of opportunities. I think i would like to get into this industry as there are many job opportunites and chances for me to get promoted and work my way up.
